What will I see at a 10 week scan?

About Baby

At 10 weeks we would expect to see baby measuring approximately 32 millimeters as well as visualise baby's heartbeat. At this gestation there may also be the first signs of movement on the scan. Baby’s face is starting to form now meaning their eyes can react to light and their ears, mouth and nose are starting to form. At this point baby’s heart is beating at 180bpm which is three times faster than Mums!

About Baby Continued...

Baby is now about the size of a prune. You should be able to see an upper lip and 2 tiny nostrils on the nose. The ears are starting to develop on the sides of your baby's head, and the ear canals are forming inside the head. Baby's mouth will now contain all future milk teeth as the jawbone is developing.

About You

By now you might be starting to feel a little bloated around the middle and your jeans will be feeling a little snug. This may be causing you to suffer with some digestive problems and excess wind. This is purely due to the muscles in your womb expanding with the growing baby so don’t panic!

Keep rested and hydrated your baby is changing all the time so you just have to let it happen. If you have just found out this week you need to book an appointment to see your GP and ask to see your midwife. You will usually be offered a scan at 8-14 weeks with the NHS but if you just can’t wait to see baby then you can book your early pregnancy scan from today.
