Overview of the Hepatitis B Antibody (HbcAb) Blood Test:

The Hepatitis B IgM Antibody Test is designed to identify the presence of IgM antibodies in your blood, indicating a current infection with hepatitis B. IgM antibodies are among the first antibodies produced by the immune system in response to an acute infection. Hepatitis B has the potential to cause severe liver damage and is transmitted through various means, including unprotected sexual contact, sharing needles, or exposure to bodily fluids from an infected individual. Additionally, mothers can transmit the virus to their babies. It's important to note that the presence of IgM antibodies, as detected by this test, does not guarantee immunity from hepatitis B.

Hepatitis B Antibody (HbcAb) Blood Test in Males and Females:

The interpretation of Hepatitis B core antibody blood test results is the same for both males and females. However, in pregnant women, Hepatitis B screening may be particularly important to assess the risk of vertical transmission of Hepatitis B to the newborn.
